The duo’s debut album, Spaces, recorded live without edits or overdubs, is a testament to risk-taking, real-time connection, and crossing musical boundaries.
"Mela and I create space for each other and then we find space in the music,” she said. “Playing together has been a freeing experience. Each time we get together, it's almost like we've started to communicate even before we start to play. The moment we see each other, we instantly enter a listening mode.”
As the track list suggests, the two Matthews are not afraid to move away from the standard classical repertoire. Pale Blue Dot is a Cochran composition named after a 1994 book by the astronomer Carl Sagan, and the titles of the five tracks are taken from chapters in the book. From the brief opening through the propulsive Voyager to the contemplative Sacred Black to the edgy Routine Interplanetary Violence before concluding with the lively Aberrations of Light, this is fine playing from both guitarists.

Tower also shared her enthusiasm for having Kara Huber perform all of her piano compositions. She pointed out that it is quite rare for a pianist to dedicate themselves to mastering the entire set of works by any composer, especially a living one.
"I actually liked the piece better after hearing her play it," Tower said.
Great to hear the new album by Matthew Cochran and Matthew McAllister featuring music by Matthew Cochran, Pat Metheny, Ralph Towner, Chick Corea, and Hans Zimmer.
Great playing throughout the album with both virtuosic ensemble performances but always sounding musical, natural, and well settled.
